SOCCER How it all began

Socceroos Flag, Australian Team Flag Soccer World Cup 11th June to 11th July 2010
Here is how it all began

The first "formal Ball Game" goes back about 3000 years ago, when a ball made from animal skin, filled with hair and feathers was played between about 10 metres high poles, probably during a military training session in China. Much later there was a ball game called TSU -CHU played like football, with a round ball kicked into a square goal post.
Years later, arenas where built by the Greek and Romans and amongst other events, a kind of football was played there too. They played on marked pitches with the same number and order of players on the field like today. What started out with more or less ball-throwing rather than kicking ended eventually up with the soccer or football sport we know today.
Soccer or Football is now a global sport dominated by men, which attract an ever growing audience, live in the stadiums and from the comfort of their homes via televised services.
The "Federation Internationale de Football Association", in short FIFA upholds championship's, called "world cup" globally every four years since 1930, with the exception of 1942 and 1946 because of the Second World War. 32 teams compete for the title after participating over three years of qualifying tournaments watched by hundreds of millions people worldwide.

Zakumi - Official Mascot with Attitude

The name Zakumi is a composition of 'ZA' standing for South Africa and 'kumi', which translates into '10' in various languages across Africa. Having travelled all over Africa, Zamuki has seen it all, Leopard habitats, open savannahs, jungles, mountains and deserts. It was a learning process for him as he now knows so much more about the environment, the diversity of nature and its people in Africa.
All are very sure that Zakumi will be first and last on the dance floor at the biggest party in the whole wide world, celebrating the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Zakumi will be very busy, entertaining all involved and in the process trying to become the best host ever. Zakumi loves to perform as he is a little bit of a showman when it comes to soccer and his beloved Country, South Africa. While he is a funny, caring Mascot, Zakumi loves to fool around and to make as many friends as possible.
Zamuki has always been a great soccer fan, as it helps him to connect to the youth of the World regardless of race or language because this sport unites people from all over the world. He always carries a football around and takes every opportunity to promote Soccer; he even got his hair dyed green to be a perfect match for the green football field. Don't worry if he falls asleep from time to time to rest for the next big job on hand. He just needs to recharge his batteries.
